At brushwiz.com we want you to have the simplest buying experience possible. We understand that you might have a few questions, so to help you feel better informed, we've put together some of the most commonly asked questions about our photo to painting services. If your questions have not been answered here, please contact us for more information.
Absolutely! BrushWiz specializes in converting digital images or physical photographs into handmade masterpieces for an affordable price. Whether that’s self-portraits, holiday or wedding photos, or photos of a family pet, our professional artists will transform your chosen image into a work of art. Since our artists start working from scratch on a blank canvas, their creative interpretations of your photo can be limitless, according to your preferences.
Prices vary according to size and medium, as well as the number of subjects in the artwork. Before giving you a price, we will need to know how many subjects will be in the painting, since depicting subjects requires time and skill to execute and the more subjects there are, the greater the complexity. Please visit our Price Page for more information.
1. Select a theme - Choose the most appropriate theme that you feel best represents your image. The themes listed cover all of the alternatives that customers would normally want to order.
2. Select a medium - We offer a wide range of mediums, including oil, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, pencil and acrylic. Please visit our Gallery to get a better idea about which medium you prefer. Our most popular medium is oil, so it’s a good option if you’re unsure.
3. Select a size and the number of figures - Since our paintings are custom-made, we cater to a wide range of size requirements. Paintings can be as small as 18” x 18” or as large as a mural that will cover an entire wall. We ask that chosen sizes match the height and width ratio of the original photograph. Sizes can also be adjusted by cropping or adding detail.
You must also specify the number of subjects that appear in the photo. We will consider every person or pet in the photo as a single subject. The same rule applies for vehicles. If you’re unsure about this, please contact customer service.
4. Upload photo(s) and special comments - The easiest way to upload your photo(s) is by using our simple online uploader. Your picture must be in .jpeg, .bmp, .png or .gif formats. We would also advise you to send us detailed photographs. They should be of high resolution and larger than 500 KB. Remember that the higher the quality of the photo you send to us, the easier it will be for the artist to create an exceptional painting, rather than simply a good one. A high-resolution photo will allow the artist to detect the minutest detail and include them in the actual painting.
Some of our customers send additional photos to help us understand all of the details that need to be incorporated in the painting and may be missing in the main photo. Multiple images of the same subject help our artists in their goal of making a perfect painting.
If you would like us to combine several photographs, do not forget to provide us with detailed information about the elements of the respective photograph that you would like us to include in the final artwork. You can always use subjects from a number of photographs and integrate them into one single painting. All you need to do is to give detailed and clear-cut instructions when you place your order.
5. Add a frame (optional) - Whether you want a framed or an unframed painting, the choice is yours. If you order an unframed painting, we will roll the canvas/paper and put it inside a protective tube and ship it to your address. If you order a framed painting, however, you can save up to 50% compared to framing charges in local stores. If you order both a painting and a frame, we will frame it and send it to you framed, as well as including all of the required accessories so that you can hang the painting on your wall immediately upon delivery.
6. Review your order - Carefully review your order for accuracy and click on the ‘Add to Cart’ button. Then, complete the checkout process to finalize your purchase.
Of course. You can specify a size when placing your order. The minimum size is 16” x 16” while the maximum is 150 “ x 150”. The size will also depend on the number of subjects you would like in the painting.
The size you choose will depend on personal preference, as well as considering where you would like to place your painting. It’s important that the painting fills the chosen space appropriately.
To ensure that the painting you receive is of the highest quality, for smaller canvases, we have to limit the number of subjects. Our artists endeavour to depict important details, such as faces, so if there are too many subjects, these details would be lost.
The smallest size we offer for photo-to-painting services is 16” x 16”. Any smaller than this and there wouldn’t be adequate room for some of the finer details, such as faces and background details.
This will depend on the subjects in your painting, their positioning and how close up they are. If the subjects are further away, you can always crop the image and zoom in. If the subjects are closer up, you can choose a larger canvas.
Yes, when placing your order you’ll be able to add a comment and upload a photo of the background you would like to use in place of the background in the original photo. As long as you specify exactly what you would like in the comments box, and upload the chosen picture to be used as a background in your painting, then changing your background should be straightforward.
If possible, the photo(s) to be used for the painting should be high-definition, which will allow the artist to more accurately capture important details. Lower definition photos can also be used, however. You can also send additional photos alongside the main photo to give the artist a better idea of the context.
It’s best to upload photos in their original size. If the size is changed, the photos will be less clear and lower in quality. You can send as many additional photos as you like, if in doubt, more is better.
Sure, many customers send us additional photos to give context and clarity, or to provide details that aren’t present in the main photo. Additional photos are very helpful for our artists to ensure that the finished painting is exactly as you have imagined.
Additional photos can also be sent when incorporating elements from different sources into one painting, such as group portraits, additional backgrounds or adding family members.
Yes, depending on the level of damage and quality. Our editors can restore and improve almost any photo.
If the quality of your photo is low or blurry, we can solve the problem by incorporating details from different photos. Details might include things like a family member, a hairstyle or an item of clothing. If you provide an additional photo with enough clarity and quantity of the missing details, our artists can reproduce them in a way that is of a superior standard to the original.
Yes, we can restore old or damaged photos and colorize black and white photos. Please let us know in the comments box when placing your order.
Please bear in mind that the more information you can provide regarding the restoration or colorizing, the better. For example, you can specify hair and eye colour, or the colour of clothing. Once restored or colorized, we will send you the photo for approval before beginning the painting. This service is provided free of charge.
Any photo can be used to make a painting, as long as all of the desired details are clearly visible. We do, however, have some tips when choosing a photo to ensure the best results:
1. Choose a photo that flatters the subject, rather than ones that reveal certain flaws, such as a fake smile or an unflattering perspective. Remember that our artists will attempt to replicate the photo, unless otherwise advised.
2. Choose a high-resolution photo. Typically, photos smaller than 500KB are low resolution and details are not depicted clearly.
3. Consider whether the background in the original photograph is the one you would like to use. The background may contain some undesirable or distracting elements and it may be preferable to use a single color background, for example. Please let us know in the comment box which background you prefer.
Please contact customer service with any questions or concerns.
Of course. You can always make a special request in the comments box. We can dramatically transform your original photo(s), as if by magic. We can combine two or more images from different photos, a brand-new background can be incorporated into the painting, we can add or delete objects and figures, or add color to black and white photos, as well as creating a new painting from an old or damaged photograph. If you have any questions about which kinds of requests are possible, please contact customer service.
Our free photo enhancement service includes:
Of course, we can assess your chosen photo for quality and then give you a quote before placing the order. Photos should be emailed as attachments to support@brushwiz.com. We will then notify you regarding the quality of the photo and whether or not it is satisfactory.
Our highly talented and creative artists are adept at combining and completely transforming photos and reproducing unique specimens. We can change the background, insert or delete images of objects or people and give a fresh new look to the entire painting. A portrait could be made more attractive by adding a dramatic background, a family get-together could be recreated or a famous artwork could be used as a backdrop for the piece. You just need to let us know what you specifically desire in the comments box, and remember to upload the various photos.
Of course, our team of skilled designers will merge multiple photos into one photo for your approval. When placing your order, please inform us in the comments box how the final piece should appear. We will then send you a preview via email for your approval. Once approved, the artist will begin working on the painting.
Here’s how the process works:

Photos are edited in various ways according to your preferences. Our skilled team of designers can enhance colors, merge multiple photos, remove unwanted aspects, add alternative backgrounds and much more. We can carry out almost any request you may have.
Please bear in mind that the artist can only begin working on your painting once you have approved the merged photo preview. Once the finalized photo has been sent to the artist, we are unable to make any large, structural changes, or any changes that would require the artist to restart the work.
It is not possible for customers to talk directly with the artist who is working on your painting. The artist will, however, receive all of your specifications and requests. Please send us any additional inquiries or requests you may have and our team will pass them on to the artist.
There is no need. We make sure the artist who is the most capable of working on your painting will be assigned to your project and execute it to perfection. Our paintings are always hand-made in our own studio by a skilled group of artists who follow every quality standard and intricate procedure required to create a masterpiece.
BrushWiz respects the intellectual property of authors and makers of pictorial images and requests that its customers also do the same. Submission of an image to brushwiz.com for processing or converting into a painting is an acknowledgement of the fact that the Copyright Notice to Customers and the accompanying terms and conditions have been read and accepted by me/us. I/We further agree that these shall be binding for the services requested by me/us from BrushWiz.
Almost all visual images, including commonplace family snapshots and works of art have a copyright vested in them. Usually such a copyright rests with the person who has taken the picture or created the artwork. It is possible that a number of copyrights may exist within a single photograph; for example the photograph and the subject contained within the photograph may be covered by different copyrights. When an image is created, the copyright automatically comes into force, irrespective of whether it has been registered or not. A copyright empowers its owner to have the exclusive authority to reproduce it, freely display it and distribute copies, and formulate other works based on the original composition. It is usually unlawful to make reproductions, print, or reproduce by any means whatsoever, photographs taken by other persons without their consent. The validity of a copyright extends far beyond the life of its owner and passes on to his or her estate, successors, or assigns. BrushWiz and its clients are both subject to copyright laws and civil and criminal punishments for violations.
A significant amount of time and artistic energy are invested by photographers and artists, who price their services on the basis of the prospects of being able to sell their prints to customers. In the case of the photos being made available from alternative sources, this potential to earn is lost. The creators of the works of art or photographers, being anxious to preserve the creative integrity of their works, usually desire to regulate the appearance of the reproductions. There could also be other motives that need elucidation. Potential customers who desire to use some aspect of the creative work are encouraged to confer with the copyright holder regarding any issues that impact on their ability to do so. By doing this, the position of the artist can then become clear and consent obtained or bought for ordering the additional copies desired.
All images, whether downloaded from websites, scanned or copied by any other means from any printed sources may be assumed to have copyright protection. While there is a lot of conjecture regarding the original source of internet images since the website on which the image is hosted is rarely the creator or copyright holder, potential copyright issues arising from intended usage of printed images can often be resolved by seeking consent from the relevant publications. In the event of our being unable to reproduce copies or provide the requested digital service, it is advisable that you approach the source and ask them. Usually, professional photographers will try to accommodate you or grant permission to you for making copies in case they themselves are not in a position to make copies for you.
Irrespective of the motivation of a copyright holder for safeguarding his or her intellectual property rights, it must be appreciated that the law affords protection to the copyright. If you harbour any misgivings you should obtain the relevant permission or suspend image submission to us until you get the permission by saving your instruction. It is advisable that a lawyer be consulted in case of any doubts about legalities that cannot be determined by BrushWiz.
I (the customer) confirm that I have perused the ‘copyright notice to customers’ that appears on the BrushWiz website (www.brushwiz.com) and am conversant with the laws prevailing copying of copyrighted materials. I confirm that I am the creator of the contents of any visual image that I submit to you (BrushWiz Ltd.) for processing or painting and possess its sole copyright. I empower you to execute the services wished, including the amendment, reproduction or the preparation and publication of works derived from the image. In the event of me not being the owner of the copyright, I have studied the prior written consent of the original copyright owner to furnish the images to you and for you to carry out the services requested by me, including the making and publication of imitative works. Upon request, I agree to provide such written permission to you.
I agree to protect and indemnify you, including your officers, employees, directors, associates, affiliates, licensors, information providers, web host and agents, and hold them innocent from any and all obligation, expenses, compensations and costs, including your reasonable attorney fees and the expenses of conforming with any injunction or directive, arising of the contract, including the violation of statute, breach of contract, negligence, common law tort, or otherwise, without limitation.
BrushWiz has the right to discard or deny any request for painting of images that are not compliant with copyright laws or terms and conditions specified in this agreement.
